The Teachers Who Inspired Me

Throughout my entire life, I was convinced that certain individuals came into my life for a reason ... just because they did. (I stopped getting trapped asking "Why?" and coming up with endless answers.)

As my life journey progressed, some of these individuals became strong influencers that unexpectedly showed me all sorts of possible Dimensions of Awareness I did not know existed ... and at times, some even transformed my way of thinking about myself and understanding my relationship with the world around me.

Below are some of those key influencers in my life that made a huge difference in defining my own Personal Dimensions of Awareness ... transforming how I experienced my relationships with Life, Love, God, and Myself.

Brene Brown

born 1965

BRENE BROWN has spent her career studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy and has authored multiple books including five New York Times best-sellers. Her TED talk is one of the top five most-viewed TED Talks in the world. Her filmed lecture, Brené Brown: The Call to Courage, debuted on Netflix in 2019.

My Initial Connection

I first saw Brene streaming on-line on a TED Talk. The title of her talk was "The Power of Vulnerability" ... and have watched it many times since. I just loved all she was sharing about how we humans emotionally work ... and my own Personal Awareness was delightfully being nourished. I also created a seminar on her work, "The Power of Vulnerability".

Quote

"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do."

 Wayne Dyer

1940-2015

WAYNE W. DYER was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the fields of self-development and spiritual growth. Over the four decades of his career, he wrote more than 40 books, including 21 New York Times bestsellers. He created many audio and video programs and appeared on thousands of television and radio shows.

My Initial Connection
In the late '80s I had seen Wayne on TV several times but did not think much about what he was saying. Then as the '90s came in, I found myself lost without a guide to my life journeys and began reading and studying his books. In 2014, I created a series of evening seminars based on his book, "Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life".

Quotes

"What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds."

"Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul."

Don Miguel Ruiz

born 1952

DON MIGUEL RUIZ is a renowned spiritual teacher and internationally bestselling author including his book "The Four Agreements." He has spent the past three decades guiding people to personal freedom through his profound insights regarding the nature of human reality.

My Initial Connection

He was a keynote speaker at an International IONS conference in 2011 I attended in San Francisco. In 2014, I became an avid fan as I studied his best selling book, The Four Agreements, and shortly after created and gave seminars based  on it.

Quote
"Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive - the risk to be alive and express what we really are."

Julio Olalla

born 1945

JULIO OLALLA is regarded as a pioneer of the executive coaching and transformational learning fields. For over 30 years, Julio has trained thousands of individuals and worked with hundreds of organizations, CEOs, and government figureheads to challenge traditional thinking and create stronger leaders navigating the anxiety and turbulence facing our global community.

My Initial Connection

Julio was my Ontological teacher and mentor ... and I studied with him in 2008-09 in Boulder, CO. This was a 9-month Ontological Coaching Program with students from around the globe attending. Here's one of my favorite quotes of his I wrote down during class ... "The Mastery of Life is knowing when to ask for help".

Quote

"Knowledge is a love affair with answers ... Wisdom is a love affair with questions."

Rod McKuen

1933-2014

ROD MCKUEN was an American poet, singer-songwriter, and actor. He was one of the best-selling poets in the United States during the late 1960s. Throughout his career, McKuen produced a wide range of recordings, which included popular music, spoken word poetry, film soundtracks, and classical music.

Quote

"Be gentle with me, new love. Treat me tenderly. I need the gentle touch, the soft voice, the candlelight after nine. There's been so many who didn't understand so give me all the love I see in your timid eyes but give it gently Please."

Rumi

1206-1273

RUMI was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic originally from Greater Khorasan. Rumi's influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. Rumi has been described as the "most popular poet" and the "best selling poet" in the United States.

Quote

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.

Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other” doesn’t make any sense.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.

Don’t go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.”

Grateful for the Courage to Openly Receive

I am grateful for both the knowledge and wisdom these and other thought-influencers I have chosen to study over the years, have shared with us all.

They have been an integral component of my own Dimensions of Awareness as The Age Awareness paradigm continues to evolve.

Thank You.
